Deliverance is perhaps the most dangerous of the Christian Ministry because it involves rescuing tile captives from a very powerful, experienced and crafty spiritual being called Satan, Devil or the Adversary. He is a real spiritual strong man from whom you cannot take anything unless you overpower him through Divine help (Mt.12:29).
He has a cohort of varying ranks of evil spirits that police the earth (Eph. 6: 12) and perpetrate all kinds of evils and wickedness. Jesus was said to have operated a PHD Ministry (Preaching, Healing and Deliverance) in which He cleared the spiritual robbers in the establishment of the Kingdom of God. At the heart of His Mission Manifesto in Luke 4:18-19 is, 'To preach deliverance to the captives ... To set at liberty those who are oppressed'.
Despite this and the fact that Jesus cast out many evil spirits like the seven from Mary Magdalene; the legion from the Gergesene demoniac;and the epileptic demon that defied His Apostles, some Christians do not believe in deliverance possibly because of 2Corinthians 5:17.
But let us note that God in His infinite wisdom is a very highly disciplined Potentate Who respects covenants, vows, curses, etc. He does not simply bulldoze issues: because He is Almighty; He keeps His Own Laws unlike Satan who is a liar. Simply put, 'Lazarus who was called to life from a four day decaying corpse must be loosed by his relatives from the grave clothes to enjoy normal life'
In this book, Reverend Chima Ugochukwu makes a concerted effort from personal experience to explain what deliverance is, those that need deliverance, and how it is to be ministered right from personal deliverance by a born-again Christian to the fierce battle waged by a deliverance team through fasting, prayers and exercise of spiritual authority bequeathed by Jesus to Whom all authority in Heaven and earth has been given.
In chapters 1 to 6, he dealt with the need to understand the meaning and contents of deliverance. Chapters 7 to28 concern the personality of Satan, his agents and ways of manifestation as well as deliverance prayers. Chapters 29 to 40 stress the need for repentance, healing and total freedom from satanic oppressions.
Finally in chapters 41 to 43, Revd Chima focuses on deliverance ministers and how to handle various situations and circumstances.
The fact that African communities especially in Nigeria worship idols which are homes for evil spirits (I Cor. 10:19-20), almost everyone is spiritually and legally implicated either in the family, clan or town covenants, vows or war with evil spirits.
But demonology is not peculiar to Africa; in a South American city Death is worshipped as a god and had 13 shrines and in one city of United States of America is described as 'a hub of witchcraft, satanic worship, New Age and the largest Buddhist temple in America...'
As you read this book, we pray that you be released from all the obvious and subtle incursions of the devil into your life and family. The Name and the Blood of Jesus as well as the infallible Word of God are veritable tools against Satan and his host of evil spirits but if you are not specifically called into the Deliverance Ministry do not ever venture into it; the experience of the seven sons of Sceva will be a child's play, Jesus is LORD any day anytime Maranatha
