Book Overview

With starred reviews from Booklist ("Potently emotional, powerfully life-affirming") and Library Journal ("Another engrossing addition to Novak's addictive series"), this is a Whiskey Creek book you don't want to miss!

As the daughter of a hoarder, Phoenix Fuller had a tough childhood. So when the handsome, popular Riley Stinson became her boyfriend in high school, she finally felt as though she had something to be proud of. Phoenix was desperate not to lose him--especially once she found out she was pregnant. Yes, she might have acted a bit obsessive when he broke up with her. But she did not run down the girl he started dating next.

Unfortunately, there was no way to prove her innocence. Now, after serving her time in prison, Phoenix has been released. All she wants to do is return to Whiskey Creek and get to know her son. But Jacob's father isn't exactly welcoming.

Riley doesn't trust Phoenix, doesn't want her in Jacob's life. He is, however, ready to find someone to love. And he wants a good mother for his son. He has no idea that he's about to find both...

Whiskey Creek #8 This Heart of Mine

10/28/25 - 11/1/25 This Heart of Mine (Whiskey Creek #8) by Brenda Novak Another Whiskey Creek Series, detailing the life of Riley Stinson, his teenage son Jason, and the woman Riley got involved with, Jason’s mom, Phoenix, whom led a troubled life. This is the story we all root for! The one where one character is from the “other side of the tracks” in the town we live in, where the other character is from the well-to-do side of town and everyone of their friends say STAY AWAY, it’s not going to work out. Riley lets family and peer pressure cloud his judgement about Phoenix and believes what everyone else does about Phoenix and an incident that happened 15 years ago. Phoenix knows the truth, has more than paid he debt to society for something she had nothing to do with! She moves back home and tries to start over. But society and the people of Whiskey Creek are not that forgiving or forgetful of the past! Riley’s parents and another try to show him he’s wrong to trust. But Riley has some smarts and is able to apply those to get the only other witness to the admit to what really transpired. Brenda knows how to gather the information, to research the facts for the information to make it all real in regards to what happens to the characters in their lives, and to get the storyline flowing so you want to know what finally happens. She’s excellent at accomplishing letting the reader know all about the characters in this small town that are woven together. It makes me continue to want to find out who and what is next.
