Thinking with Scripture: How the Bible Forms Reason and Discernment

By Andrew Jennings

Christians are called to love God with heart, soul, strength, and mind--yet few resources show us how Scripture itself equips us to do exactly that.

Thinking with Scripture: How the Bible Forms Reason and Discernment by Andrew Jennings is a spiritually formative guide to developing a mind shaped by God's Word. Jennings argues that the biblical authors were not merely conveying information--they were modeling how to reason, persuade, and discern, employing deductive and inductive argumentation, principles of logic, philosophical modeling, and rhetorical craft to communicate God's revealed truth.

Drawing every example and exercise directly from Scripture, this text walks readers through three movements: the nature of truth, rhetoric, and persuasion; practical tools for discernment; and a synthesis of the big picture those tools reveal. The result is a resource that equips readers to distinguish truth from falsehood, render sound moral judgments, and recognize genuine beauty over mere imitation. Thinking with Scripture is an invitation to be formed, from the inside out, by the mind of God.
