Thinking Globally: Writing and Reading Across The Curriculum

Excellent text for freshman English.

Robson has integrated the curriculum with this interdisciplinary, unique English text book. Students are taught content material that is important to know in our culture while learning to read for meaning, write correctly, and think critically. As a Dean and Director of Teacher Education, this new approach to teaching composition is the kind of teaching I want to see modeled for future teacher educators. We encourage teachers to make learning relevant and meaningful and Robson's approach does just that. With pieces from history, geography, science, anthropology, art, etc. students are encouraged to think globally and learn composition skills from relevant material. It also reinforces their studies in the liberal arts and provides them with prior knowledge as they enroll in their general education courses. This unique way of teaching composition reinforces important cultural knowledge that every student, especially future teachers, need when they graduate and begin their respective careers.
