Thicket of Thieves

Sergeant Anya Jones returned from a one week seminar in Tucson relieved to be back in Prescott, Arizona where she knew what was what and who was who. What she didn't know was what had been happening - a complete about-face of how her world used to be.

Monday started with a heat advisory, typical for August. After she dropped off her car at Doug's, her mechanic, the ten-year-old Subaru was acting odd, she found her office jammed with old furniture. Searching for an explanation she wound up at City Hall in the Mayor's office finding not her Mayor but a Mayor Pro Tem. A pretender. The real Mayor was at home under self-imposed house arrest because of certain untoward allegations against him brought by his secretary, Molly.

Anya and Reynoso head back to Doug's. Doug informs Anya the front fender of her Subaru has been shot at with BBs.

Meanwhile, Reynoso responds to an urgent medical call from the courthouse.

All this before noon.
