Brilliant Childrens Lit.

This book is wonderfully imaginative. I remember my 4th grade teacher read it to the class. I made my mother go out and buy it for me so I could finish it early. That was 12 years ago. I have read and reread the book so many times I nearly wore it out. It is sad that it is now out of print. Any child (or adult)would enjoy this book. Its a gem.

The BEST way to start the year!

Many moons ago, in a workshop, someone I admire greatly spoke about the first day of school. She told me that she started the FIRST day with a novel. I searched the shelves, and this title grabbed me! Since then, I have started EVERY school year with reading 104 to my students. I've developed a huge unit that I will be glad to share. Jerry is awesome and I use ALL of his books now in my gifted classes. Anyone can use/adapt them. Please feel free to contact me if you want info!

The teacher that was fun

I loved this book when I first got it. I'm a senior in high school now, and I received the book in 5th grade ('92-'93), and loved it so much. I can't believe it's out of print now. I won the book for runner-up in my class spelling bee. Unfortunately, the teacher died, but she now reminds me of Ms. Merriweather.

Excellent source to teach life lessons in an entertaining wy

Why is this book out of print? It is so good that one of my students "lifted" it off my desk. After 15 years in teaching, this is the first time something has disappeared like that. I miss it terribly! Each year has been started with this book and now I am without it. It is humorous, yet intense in it's presentation. Sixth graders beg for me to read it daily and not stop. They don't want to miss a day of school because they miss a day with Ms. Merriweather. She does what we all wish we could do... instill love, respect, and self discipline with her unique style. This is one that needs to be back on the shelves. Please reprint it. PLEASE!!!!!!

An awesome way to start the school year!

On day one, (thank you Harry Wong), my students walk up to my door and see a picture of a VERY harried teacher!!!! they come in, i say hello, and immediately begin reading. this book is a blast! there are numerous writing situations, spelling words, inferential thinking situations, etc......I love starting my year with this book! Thanks Jerry.....Now, if I can only find another copy! Fellow teachers, you owe it to yourself!!!!!
