What is written in history books is not necessarily the truth. A growing body of archaeological evidence suggests that the Chinese reached the Americas before Columbus did. 历史书上的描述不一定是真相，越来越多的考古证据证明，中国人先哥伦布到达了美洲。 The long-established historical answer that Columbus was the first to reach the Americas has been questioned by many-some through rigorous research, others through reasoned speculation. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the author received an invitation from Douglas Preston, President of the Authors Guild of America, to travel to the United States and interview more than a dozen researchers who firmly believe that "the Chinese arrived in the Americas before Columbus." These researchers include historians, archaeologists, geologists, geographers, as well as a professor of architecture, a NASA engineer, a World War II U.S. veteran, and descendants of missionaries whose parents or grandparents lived in China. They are convinced that Columbus-who crossed the Atlantic in 1492 and believed he had reached India-was certainly not the first to "discover" the American continent. Based on their own research and reasoning, these challengers have written books and articles, steadfastly convinced that-in addition to the Chinese, with their ancient, advanced civilization and technology-the Polynesians, the Phoenicians, the Greeks, and the ancient peoples of Southeast Asia and the South Pacific islands also crossed the oceans to reach the Americas many times over several millennia.
