Thermodynamic modeling in design and off-design of a WTE

The text presents an in-depth study of a waste-to-energy plant located in the metropolitan city of Bologna. Using THERMOFLEX software, the waste-to-energy plant was modeled on the basis of plant P&Is and from inspections carried out directly on site, subsequently implementing a modification to the thermodynamic cycle, attending to the environmental benefits obtained, in terms of Tons of Oil Equivalent (TEP) saved, and calculating the payback time of the investment.The introductory section includes an overview of waste management (collection and treatment) in Europe and Italy, also reporting the percentage of separate collection and utilization of the energy content of waste, as an important issue in the fight against climate change.
