An approach to working with clients who simply do not want to change. Therapeutic change, in the view of Fred J. Hanna, hinges on the presence of seven precursors of change: hope, awareness, a sense... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book is a nice compliment to the Stages of Change Model. The Precursors mentioned provide specific topic areas to be addressed in helping individuals progress through the stages of change in their lives. For example, the author addresss "Sense of Necessity" (desire to change) as a precursor and how to assess it if absent. There are some assessment tools included which aid in defining what prescursor is in need of being addressed. Using this book allows one to better understand the client's readiness for change. For those who utilize motivational interviewing methods and the stages of change model, this book is a must have.
