One of the Best

I have used this book's techniques for over 20 years, and have recommended it to many boards and executive directors. It is one of the easiest reads while being full of easy to understand and easy to apply techniques. A must for anyone who wants to run effective meetings.

Awesome book on running meetings

I read this book many years ago and used it for the basis of giving a talk on Teamwork. Years later, I still use this book. It covers every aspect of dealing with how to facilitate a meeting, including planning, execution, and follow up. With Joiner's The Team Handbook, you'll be a team leader super star.

Holding Productive and Effective Meetings

In "How to Make Meetings Work, Michael Doyle wrote a very useful and comprehensive book on guiding people on how to plan, organize and run effective and productive meetings. The book is well written in an easy to follow and understand style. It helped me to discard the notion that meetings are a waste of time and money and learnt how they can be very useful for an organization. Among the important tips that the author highlighted are the importance of having a clear agenda distributed in advance of the meeting, having a clear purpose of the meeting, clarity on the type of meeting being held (e.g. whether it is a planning meeting, for decision making, feedback etc), adequate preparation by all participants, participation in discussions by all those present at a meeting, importance of starting and ending on time, the need to stick to the agenda, summarizing action items and resolving conflicts that may arise. The book also provides insights into meeting leadership skills. This is one of the reference books that I use when facilitating on holding effective and productive meetings. The book is essential reading for all people who have to organize, attend or chair meetings. Don't be put off by the date of publication (originally published in 1976) as the lessons the book teaches are timeless.

why don't they teach this in business school?

of all the things that we learn in school, how to more effectively manage a meeting is not one of them, but should be. i wish i had read this many years ago. everyone who joins our team receives a copy in their first week.

the handbook of successful meetings

Doyle/Strauss have written the classic in meeting design, facilitation and management. It is easy to read and use; the standard guidbook that everyone uses.
