An ambitious young member of the Time Service travels back to 1500 B.C. to rescue two fellow Service members lost in ancient Egypt. There's only one problem: they don't want to be rescued. A Nebula and Hugo Award winner, Silverberg writes with style, wit, and imagination (Library Journal).
It's a shame the reviewers here didn't appreciate this story. My opinion here may be biased by my love of good time travel stories. A man from the time travel agency comes back in time to rescue two missing travellers who overshot their destination and were left stranded. In the time they've been stuck in Ancient Egypt, they have become gods and are worshipped by the people. The new agent is torn between betraying the agency and staying or forcing the two to return with him. True, the characters are barely developed, and you sometimes catch on to what is going on before the author reveals it, but the book is very short. I did like the detail of Egypt, which was also too brief. The ending is abrupt yet satisfying, and it is more developed than the sudden ending of the similar Silverberg novella "Letters From Atlantis." Those two short novels by this author have prompted me to read him further, and I have yet to be disappointed. I would recommend this book. It is fast paced and the download is very affordable.
Breathtaking imagery

Silverberg is a master at drawing you into an imaginative world. This book makes you feel like you're smack in the middle of ancient egypt pursuing a potentially deadly mission, from ancient temples to the city of the dead. Great plot and amazing imagery.
