Five Lessons covering five different cultures in Theatre World History The unit starts with the Origin of theatre and the Mediterranean area. Next we travel to West Africa and study story telling. Experience the 1500's and Italy's Commedia Del 'Arte. Then we move over to Japan and 1700's Bunraku and Kabuki theatre. We finish the world culture unit with Modern Russian theatre. Students learn to appreciate a variety of cultures, compare American theatre with other theatrical types, and learn the contributions all countries make toward self-expression through the ages. This unit supports students in learning study and research skills, group work and discussion etiquette, and explores various elements and types of theatre, performance, and stage makeup techniques.
