A boy becoming a man!

This fabulous story of a young boy who finds & raises a deer. Gregory Peck is so utterly handsome & did a superb acting job. It takes place in early settled Florida when settlers carved out of the jungley swampy rattlesnake infested land small farms called "islands". They struggle thru failed crops, sickness & torrential rains, flooding etc. Hardship is their accepted way of life. It is one of the best ever books transferred to screen & beautifully done. A must see for the entire family.
