Riveting: I lost sleep, not able to put it down at night

Russel Jessop's writing style is vivid and sparks the imagination. The Yarn of the Mitten is obviously well researched, but on top of that, the characters are colorful, real and stimulating. Mr. Jessop chose a good format in historical fiction. With it, he both details the history of his home state Michigan, and captures the reader with many deep and colorful characters, not centering just on the Michaelovic (Michaels) family. The Yarn of The Mitten in an intelligent and aesthetic view of both the man who wrote it and the state of Michigan! John P.A. Davis

Excellent, Well Researched, Authentic, Historical Novel

A fascinating, historical novel chronicling the lives of families settling in the Michigan wilderness of the 1800s and the problems that faced them. This story shows a deep insight of Michigan life as it must have been during that period and shows the author's deep love, respect and understanding of the state of Michigan as it was then and the forces that shaped it to what it is now. It is impossible not to get deeply involved in these family's dreams; expectations and trevails as their lives unfold before you. The interweaving, into the story, of the War Between the States and how it affected the participants and their families is especially compelling. A book not to be missed, especially if you have any Michigan ties.
