The Wrong Face

By Stephen DeCesare

When powerful technology executive Louis Bergantino is murdered in his own home, the evidence seems almost impossibly clear.

Biological material recovered from beneath his fingernails is processed through GENESIS, a revolutionary forensic system capable of reconstructing a human face from DNA. The result points directly to Joe Sadlier, Bergantino's longtime colleague and former friend.

Then everything else begins falling into place.

Sadlier had recently fought with Bergantino over the future of the company. His phone appears near the crime scene. He had the technical knowledge to manipulate the victim's sophisticated security system. And GENESIS identifies him not once, but twice.

For Detective Gloria Zambuco, it should be the easiest major case of her career. Except something is wrong.

A bloody shoe print doesn't fit. Security records raise questions instead of answering them. Electronic evidence begins to look almost too perfect. And the deeper Gloria digs into GENESIS, the more disturbing the possibilities become.

What if the DNA never lied? What if someone simply changed the face investigators were allowed to see?

As Gloria races to determine whether an innocent man has been framed, she uncovers a hidden weakness inside one of the most trusted forensic systems ever created, and a killer who understood exactly how much faith people place in technology.

The Wrong Face is a fast-moving technological crime thriller about murder, artificial intelligence, forensic certainty, and the danger of trusting an answer simply because a machine produced it.
