Experienced writing teacher Hazel Smith demystifies the process of creative writing, providing exercises and examples to show how it can be systematically learnt.
I love this book. I haven't worked through the whole of it yet, but I keep coming back to it each time I get stuck or slowed down in my writing. The title may sound intimidating to some, but Smith breaks the exercises down into easy to manage parts and then builds them back up, providing numerous examples from both students' and published authors' writing. Her exercises are very different to the stock exercises of other writing books, great for stimulating new ideas, and she's not afraid to take issue with standard writing advice where she feels it's necessary.

Great course book for beginners and advanced students. A book you'd browse through again and again to keep your mind sharp. I'll definitely keep this one close by.
