Nodd, in an effort to protect his friends--who have been threatened by the Senator--goes into hiding and no one can find him for weeks. That leaves his detective agency partner, Aunt Mildred, to do everything. And Donovon has kept her mostly in the dark, which pisses her off. Donovon writes a series of instructions for Mildred, for Don't Ask Me--his sort of adopted street kid--for physical fitness nut Naomi, for his friends Charlie and Miguel and even for the kinky and seductive Kendall Drake.

All his friends try to help Donovon, further putting themselves in danger. But when another murder is committed, Donovon finally comes out of hiding, determined to find evidence that will convict Senator Cragmont.
