The World Under: Weird Tales

By: Steve Rasnic Tem

Seventeen stories, including one original, representing a range of weird fiction from the subtle to the darkly surreal. Here are haunted houses and haunted lives, the mysteries of aging and death, bodies undergoing impossible transformations, and ordinary people discovering that the world they thought they understood has become something else entirely. Grief, memory, loneliness, and yearning run through these stories, where the strange may be supernatural, psychological, or simply a glimpse of a reality we were never meant to see.

The stories are drawn from publications including The Dark, Nightmare Magazine, Nightmare Abbey, Supernatural Tales, Three-Lobed Burning Eye, and Cosmic Horror Monthly. The final piece is In the Lovecraft Museum, a Shirley Jackson Award-nominated novella, long out of print, about a pilgrimage to a museum dedicated to H. P. Lovecraft that becomes a journey into a world increasingly difficult to explain, escape, or distinguish from our own.
