You will enjoy each and every poem in this book; they are simply fantastic. These poems tell stories that talk to your soul and will make you laugh. The author's poems create exquisite visuals that connect the mind and spirit. I'm not an expert on poetry, but I loved this book. I hope she writes another soon.

Women will love it, and men should read it

To me, this book is about the journey of life and the ultimate celebration of its most passionate dark and light moments, as well as the more prevailing (but no less important) gray ones. The overall experience of reading the book is redemptive. Not surprisingly, Hull's voice s undeniably feminine, as is her sensibility. Women will love to read this poetry because it speaks to their yearning, enduring hearts. Men could learn a lot about women by reading it! Any woman who has ever been stuck in a bad job, struggled for self-worth and self-love, enjoyed the support of a true friend or family member or felt betrayed by one, swelled with the joy of love for their child, felt the total condemnation of a partner and the corruption of love, or wrestled with romantic desires will relate to this book---in other words, almost every woman alive. The poems can be wonderfully lighthearted and joyful, as in "Key West Vacation" and "The Day." Some are wickedly funny ("The Oddball") or amusing ("Salon"). Others are downright scathing and scornful, as in "Time," and "The Narcissist." Some mark places in time ("The Mansion" and "An Afternoon Creek") and others are extremely clever, piercing observations, as in "The Book," "The Little Man," and "Blush." Many of the poems are above love and its follies, indiscretions, sacrifices, and ironies ("Smoke," "A Thousand Years," "Winter," and "My Midnight Beach.") while others give voice to romance ("Motion Picture," "Sugar," "The Bloom"). The most impressive quality of Hull's poetry is its utter honesty and guilelessness---it is obvious she writes for her soul and from her heart. The structure and meter of the poetry is traditional (rhyming, iambic pentameter with some variations), and the language is beautiful and fairly straightforward. It is to Hull's credit that she pulls off the neat trick of writing poetry that is at once accessible and challenging. Anyone interested can read the poetry and get the point, though some of the references may take a little effort. To this end, she has provided "Authors Notes," which describe or explain the context of a most of the poems. Reading these notes is almost as gratifying as the poetry itself, because they also contain truths and insights in and of themselves. Writing a book of poetry that so accurately reflects a gender of feeling certainly takes time, talent, and guts. I am looking forward to reading this book over and over and await her next one with great anticipation.
A wonderful summer read!

I have to say that I haven't read a complete book of poetry since college but I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The poems are very moving and there is an amazing mix of emotions in the authors work. I found myself laughing and crying at just the flip of a page. Although this is certainly a book for both sexes, I think women can really relate to many of the poems, particularly those dealing with love and loss. I whole heartedly recommend this book, particularly to those who grew up on the beautiful coast of South Carolina, or those who wish they could visit.
