Wonderful resource

This is an excellent book to look at whenever you're trying to study the pyramids. The illustrations are so wonderful, that it definitely projects a clear view on daily work on a pyramid. I recomend it for adults as well..., we're never too old to aloud a good illustrated book to stimulate our imagination when studying the ancient pyramid builders.

Excellant Overview

This is an excellent overview of how different cultures built pyramids and the differences in the way they were used. Millard focuses mainly on Egyptian pyramids, taking more than half the book to describe the Egyptian culture and religion that helped to shape their tombs. The rest of the book discusses pyramids of the Americas made by the Maya, Aztec and Incas. A two-page spread also shows lesser-known pyramids, such as those found in Sumer, Nubia, Myanmar and Java. Another two-page spread details some modern pyramids such as the glass creation near the Louvre. Included at the end are a pictorial glossary and an index. Providing an index was helpful because the book is crammed with information and it can be difficult to recall where a previous reference to an item was located. For example a picture of a Benben later in the work made much more sense after re-reading its purpose as stated a few pages before (the term Benben was not including in the glossary). The illustrations are excellent and feature on site photography as well as artists' renderings of past activities. Especially helpful are the cut-away illustrations to show the inner rooms of the pyramids. The only negative to this book is the slightly illogical word flow; in some instance the text is in a multicolumn format that cuts off in odd places.

full of info

If you want to learn all about Egypt, mummies, egyptian gods, and everyday life in Egypt this is the book for you. It's all here in The World of Pyramids! Full color photos help tp bring the inormation to life. Also included in the book are a glossary for terms and a very helful index for easy refrence. The only thing that we did not like about this book was that the pages seemed too busy. Too much information was packed on to the pages. We would recommed this book to kids ages 8 -12. It will help them to understand more about Ancient Egypt.
