Set in the Carolina woodlands, "The Wooden Man" is a dark, modern day fable that explores the nature of faith, doubt, hope, desperation, deceit, and truth. Gabe, a young boy lost in the woods, comes upon a mysterious cabin. A benevolent stranger promises to help Gabe get home, but then leaves the boy alone with the cabin's other denizen - a six-foot wooden man. Furthermore, Gabe is left with instructions that allow him to communicate with the wooden man and learn from him. What supernatural forces are at work in this strange place? What will happen when Gabe's interactions with the wooden man take a sinister turn? How long can the boy endure, what lessons must he learn, and what will he be willing to do to finally get home again?The story has elements of supernatural horror, suspense, and religiosity. It is intended not just to evoke certain emotions, but to stimulate thought and discussion by its readers. Also, though the protagonist in this story is an eight year old boy, some of the themes, including adultery, violence, and death, may not be suitable for young children.
