The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a novel by American author Lyman Frank Baum, published in 1900. The story recounts and chronicles the adventures of a young farmer Dorothy, after she and her dog were swept away with their home by a tornado and transported to the magical land of Oz. The book is one of the best-known stories in American literature. Baum wrote 14 additional books, which served as the official sequel to the first story. Three million copies have been sold. Lyman Frank Baum, May 15, 1856 - May 6, 1919, was an American author, newspaper editor, actor, screenwriter and film producer, in the genre of fantasy literature, poetry and short stories, in particular the wonderful Wizard of Oz and its suites, and which have been adapted for cinema. His works anticipate inventions that have become realities, such as television, laptops (The Master Key, in 1901), cordless telephones (Tik-Tok of Oz, in 1914). Baum became famous for his children's books. He died at 62.
