Wonder-ful experience for us!

We read a Christmas book each night of December. This one is new for us. I read it last night to my girls (5 and 6) and it was a wonder-filled and wonder-ful experience for us all. I stopped on each page and we answered the question. On Gabriel's page, "I wonder how did Gabriel feel?", my 5-yr. old exclaimed, "YIPPEE. I get to tell Mary about the baby." In answer to, "I wonder what the couple said", my 6-yr. old replied, "We're going to have a baby, we're going to have a baby; and do you think he'll look like me? or have different colored eyes?". WOW! Each page was fun as we wondered what could have been.

Terrific contemporary Christmas story!

I love the way this book invites children (and adults!) to wonder. With whimsical language, this book is one your kids will want you to read over and over, and you'll be happy to say yes. And it will mean more to your family each year, taking you deeper into the real meaning of Christmas.

A great way to share the Christmas story with your children!

If you have small children, you're sure to have conversations that are chock full of questions. The great thing about questions is that they often present the opportunity for you to have meaningful conversations with your children. It's hard to think of a more important topic of discussion than the birth of Jesus Christ that we celebrate each year at Christmas. The Wonder of Christmas is chock full of the type of questions your children might have about the Christmas story. For much of the book, the reader is presented with open-ended questions about what the angels, Mary, Joseph, the innkeeper, the shepherds, and the wise men might have thought or felt in the midst of the Christmas story. Towards the end of the book it transitions from questions into statements about how the reader should feel and act towards Jesus in light of the Christmas story. As you read the book you see a children's Christmas pageant unfolding before your eyes. The given scene on a page corresponds to the question or statement at hand. Dave Hill's illustrations are lifelike, but still playful with a bit of a cartoonish flair to them. As always, Dandi Daley Mackall's poetic style is a pleasure to read. The Wonder of Christmas is a great book to share with your children during this Christmas season.
