Jay Delp, a veteran Marine, returns to his hometown of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to step into his new role as police chief while caring for his ailing father. On the eve of his first day on the job, two fishermen discover the body of a woman in Biloxi Bay. As city officials push for a quick resolution, Jay finds himself uncovering the dark secrets hiding beneath the surface of his once-familiar town.
This was a slow starter for me that got really good towards the end - only "to be continued" in the next book. The author took a lot of liberties with his descriptions of the Ocean Springs PD and government, but seems to know the locale pretty well. I live here and while the deviations from what is our city here bothered me at first, I decided to not be nit picky and just enjoy the story. I understand this is a work of fiction and an author writes it how he wishes to tell the story. All in all it turned out to be a pretty good read and I will read the next in the series because I want to know what happens now.
