The Woman Between Memories
Clara Bennett wakes up in a hospital bed to a stranger sitting in the chair beside her - a man who says, gently, that he's sorry, but he doesn't know her. His name is Daniel. According to the hospital's paperwork, he's her husband.
Fourteen months are missing. Not fading at the edges the way trauma usually steals memory, but cut clean, like a scalpel rather than a wound - and Clara, a psychologist who has spent her career studying exactly how memory breaks and heals, knows the difference better than anyone alive. Someone did this to her. And the evidence she uncovers, piece by devastating piece, suggests she did it to herself.
As Clara claws her way back into a life she can't remember choosing, she finds a locked box of evidence, a research protocol wearing a stranger's brand name, and a husband bound by a set of rules she apparently wrote for him herself, rules that forbid the people who love her most from ever simply telling her the truth. Somewhere behind all of it is a warehouse fire, eleven names on a memorial plaque, and a woman on an island whose safety Clara was willing to trade her entire marriage to protect.
The deeper Clara digs, the more she suspects that the tool she built to heal broken minds has been quietly repurposed to erase inconvenient ones, and that she may not be the whistleblower she believes herself to be, but something far more complicated.
The Woman Between Memories is a psychological thriller about the cost of being right for the wrong reasons - a story that asks what happens when the people who love you most decide, out of devotion, that you don't deserve to choose your own risks. Clara Bennett will get her memory back. What she loses to get it is another matter entirely.
