The Wolves of Pilov: a fictional reconstruction of the 1927 wolf attack on the Siberian village of Pilovo. This was a "Wolf Winter", when only humans had enough food to survive. Maala, the alpha male of the pack, calls for a Great Hannal of over 100 wolves to form. They savage the village animals before turning to humans. People are dragged from homes, muscles ripped from their bones, parents unable to defend their children. Helpless, the villagers barricade themselves in the strongest houses. A Soviet pilot flying over the village sees the wolves and starts a rescue effort that results in the loss of most of the soldiers. Spurred to organization by this hero of the new order, the survivors fight back in an evening of unrelenting terror.
