The Wizard's Way

An entertaining introduction to the genre that touches on big ideas and deep emotions... - BookLife

When twelve-year-old Katie's grandfather mysteriously vanishes, she must unlock powers she never knew she had to save her family-and her soul.

Katie has always been the "strange" one-the kid who doesn't quite belong, who asks too many questions, who somehow drove her parents apart. But when she and her little sister, Jenny, discover a portal to another world called O'Mirra, she must battle more than her internal demons to bring her grandfather home alive.

Encountering a world in chaos, twisted creatures, and a bitter, broken sorcerer, Katie wonders if she has what it takes to rescue her family. Armed with only a handful of magical spells, a rescued wolf pup named Spunky, and the help of a young wizard named Aiden, Katie must embrace the stunning truth about herself, master her magic, and learn that her greatest strength may not be magic at all.

Written by psychologist Lisa Kelly, this emotionally rich fantasy supports young readers navigating change, belonging, and self-worth - making it a powerful fit for classroom and library collections.

Perfect for fans of Percy Jackson, Keeper of the Lost Cities, and The Land of Stories, THE WIZARD'S WAY is a magical adventure about courage, sisterhood, belonging, and believing in yourself.

First in a new series. Includes a Magic Spell Guide and Core Wizard Powers Reference.

A perfect fantasy book for young readers

The Wizard's Way is a FANTASTIC introduction to fantasy for young readers. There were so many small things that elevated the story to something truly heartfelt for older readers, without being confusing to younger audiences. I spent a couple weeks reading a chapter or two a night to our grandkids (5 & 8) and it's the first time I've gotten the older one actually excited about a story. The language was very absorbable, the voices were varied and distinct without being overwhelming, transitions were easily followed, the pacing was spot on - never a lag or too fast for the kids to follow, and the story slowed down and wrapped up in such a way as to not leave them with a cliffhanger or uncertainty. We've done The Princess Bride, Matilda, and The Golden Compass, and while both kids followed along and remembered plot points, they weren't **excited** about going to bed. This book changed that. I won't pretend it was the younger one's favorite activity, but she listed quietly and dozed off quickly (which is really quite an accomplishment in itself), but the 8 year old...he cared. He never cares. He requested it nightly, stayed awake through chapters even though he's normally the first to pass out, remembered where we left off the night before, and went so far as to question whether or not the book was actually a show. It was real for him, he could see it. I cannot say enough good things about this book. Read via Netgalley
