Jake Rinehart thought he was like every other teenage boy his age. He laughed at fart jokes, longed for a girlfriend and despised his whiny little brother. So what if his Dad once told him he could make the wind move just by thinking about it? It wasn't like it was magic or anything. When dear old Dad betrays the family and leaves them for another woman, Jake dwells on the possibility of controlling the wind and the idea of magic. Those thoughts plague his mind as his mother picks up stakes and moves them across country to her hometown in Southern Oregon. Once there they set up residence at a low-income apartment complex called Camelot Heights. Over the summer break, Jake discovers that his neighbor, a weird old man with a creepy black cat, might be more than just eccentric. He sets out to prove that the old man is behind the mischief at the apartments - dead mice found in a perfect circle under the floorboards, neighbors mysteriously losing their voices, strange symbols that appear and disappear. But when his brother goes missing - along with the other children from the complex - Jake becomes entangled in a plot to release an ancient evil from another realm. With no one else to do the job, Jake realizes he must put a stop to it - even if that means accepting that his father was right about magic and taking a chance on THE WIZARD NEXT DOOR.
