The Witch's Veil of Vilnius

The Witch's Veil of Vilnius is a Gothic folk-horror novel about what happens when a cathedral's oldest lie breaks open.

During a feast-day Mass at Vilnius Cathedral, the stone beneath the high altar fractures into a sealed void that was never meant to be found. Black dust rolls out like a held breath finally released. The bells stop mid-sequence. Words on the page begin to fade. Something beneath the sanctuary is not empty, it is listening.

Sister Agne, the cathedral's assistant archivist, is ordered to document the chamber before it is sealed and explained away. What she recovers is not a relic sanctioned by the Church: a fragment of dark cloth stitched with mirrored scripture, built to turn the Word backward and keep a "dissonant voice" paused in place.

But the Veil is not passive. It behaves like a seal and a key. Contact triggers missing hours, vanishing names, and bodily memory that does not belong to her. The thing beneath the altar calls itself a door. It is looking for a mouth.

If the Church built its fortress on top of what it feared, what else has it been feeding for two hundred years?
