Short snippets of the rich cultural heritage of the Irish

One of the things that surprised me when I was young was learning that Ireland was such a small country and that the population was so low. I heard stories about the Irish in so many contexts that I had always thought that it must be a big country with a lot of people. The real reason is that they have so much lore that expresses their cultural traditions. I can think of no other nationality that has such a rich history of tales and folklore. Some of that rich cultural treasure is captured in this book. All of the entries are short statements, some of which are Old Irish sayings or blessings and others that were uttered by famous people of Irish extraction. It demonstrates in words what everyone who had dealt with the Irish understands. They have a big heart, love life and generally know when to lapse away from taking themselves too seriously.
