In 1670 the Reverend Charles Winthrop made his way by ship from England to America. He was eager to start a new church in the land of Virginia. Charles was making his journey without his family which had to stay in England a while longer because his wife, Ann was with-child. When they were finally together, they had three more boys and a girl. Everything was fine until Charles passed away in 1685. Ann re-married to a man, John Wale who was as even tempered as Charles was. The boys finally had enough and in 1887 the four brothers, Charles, William, Thomas and Richard left for lands unknown. They settled in a small settlement in Pennsylvania with a friendly tribe of Indians. The brothers went their own way. Some families stayed, went back to Virginia or went to a new settlement they had heard of in Kentucky. This story follows the adventures of the Winthrop family and their cousins to the year 1820.
