This very good book is a delightful introduction to or enhancement of one's knowledge of wine. The author allows you to discover that to enjoy wine you only need to pay attention to what your eyes, nose and mouth tell you about what is in the glass. He does this with humor, wit and an obvious knowledge of his subject. The characters come alive and carry you along to discover the truth about the great wine critic. On the journey you experience great food and wine. You also meet some wine folks that love what they do. The author makes living in the California wine country seem like a great escape but allows you to understand how hard work, dirt, weather and a little magic create wine. Enjoy this book it is worth it.

Loved the book. A great summer read that is very difficult to put down. Lots of suspense and enjoyable dialogue with some very funny stuff in the descriptions. Great insight into the small wine farmers who take a huge pride in producing truly wonderful wines. Just before reading the book I was wondering if there was any corruption in the all powerful wine critics who rate wines and greatly influence sales. The book make me a believer in letting my own senses determine the quality of the wine.

This is a must read for anyone who has ever had a glass of wine and wants to see justice upheld over the deliberate workings of media "experts" in the paid for review world of wine. Funny, as hell, built on supposed "fiction", names et al, however you find yourself filling in the real names, or at least you can best guess. The good guys are really good and the others, as they should be. I loved the fact that the wine "farmers' have and do live to grow, produce and bring forth their best efforts and along the way they support each others, competitors always, and as the story unfolds, they do indeed take care of business. Lots of fun, lots of insight to the wine world (and life as well). Recommend; hope author goes to the next step; give us another.
