Their refusal, even in the light of all the proof God gave them regarding His ability to help and guide them, to believe in Him is almost beyond belief. Moses did not have an easy time leading such a disparate group of rebellious and obstinate unbelieving individuals. Even his sister and brother challenged his God given authority, yet the narrative clearly illustrated just how onerous a responsibility it was. By putting oneself into that situation and trying to understand why the people were so obstinately awkward can be very instructive, particularly if we ask ourselves if we are doing the same thing today.
