One month is not enough

Here we get to know more history, geography and mythology of the world of the Hunt, more of the characters we met in 'Vengeance Moon', and more details about those Huntsmen we've already learned to care for. The plot complexity kept me guessing and eager for more. It's a good thing I planned ahead and had the weekend free; I did not even sleep until it was done.

Child of Fire hits the ground running

Highly enjoyable! I found myself trying to sneak in a few more minutes at lunch and at breaks to keep reading. Sure, I read Vengeance Moon when it came out, but I think Foxe's style has gotten its stride with Child of Fire. The pace was just right (I love the restriction of the stories to a lunar month,) the plot just sufficiently complicated (Dare I make any comparison with Dorothy Dunnett?) and the characters human enough to keep me interested and intrigued to the very end. In fact, I kept looking at the dwindling number of pages wondering how in heaven's name Foxe was going to resolve everything in the space she had left. This is one author (and one story) I am glad I took time to get to know.

The Wild Hunt: Child of Fire

I enjoyed the first book of this series, Vengeance Moon. This second book delves more into the personalities of the men of the Wild Hunt. The pace is just as fast, and the adventure very interesting. The mission of the cursed men of the Wild Hunt this time is to save the son of a peasant mother. But of course, it winds up not being so simple! The men seem to learn from their missions since the goddesses cursed them, but it is rare for them to find a woman strong enough to free them from their curse. I am looking forward to more sequels to the Wild Hunt. Very enjoyable.
