Book Overview

A wealthy family shrouded in scandal; a detective tasked with solving an impossible cold case; and a woman with a dark past collide in Hannah Morrissey's stunning new Black Harbor mystery, The Widowmaker.

Ever since business mogul Clive Reynolds disappeared twenty years ago, the name "Reynolds" has become synonymous with "murder" and "mystery." And now, lured by a cryptic note, down-on-her-luck photographer Morgan Mori returns home to Black Harbor and into the web of their family secrets and double lives. The same night she photographs the Reynolds holiday get-together, Morgan becomes witness to a homicide of a cop that triggers the discovery of a long-buried clue.

This could finally be the thing to crack open the chilling cold case, and Investigator Ryan Hudson has a chance to prove himself as lead detective. If only he could stop letting his need to solve his partner's recent murder distract him. But as Morgan exposes her own dark demons, could her sordid history be the key to unlocking more than one mystery?

This was the worst book I have ever received. It was not in acceptable condition!! Looks like it was dropped in a puddle. I have bought a lot of books from you and I was really disappointed!’n

Welcome Back to Black Harbor!

There is something darkly intriguing about Black Harbor. It has so much bleakness, crimes most foul, and yet there are mostly good people living there, trying to survive (mostly so they can escape) but also finding a bit of love and some happiness amid the pain and death. I did like how, even this story takes place in the same location as Hello, Transcriber, it focuses mostly on different characters (with the exception of Cole who is helping Hudson with the cold case reopened after the car is found and why Harrison was shot and killed at the gas station). The two main characters in this dark and disturbing case are Ryan Hudson and Morgan Mori, both interesting and hiding very dark secrets that end up being connected in surprising ways. While I would never want to live or even visit Black Harbor, I am hooked on this series which dives deep into the pits of human vice and sin, where all the characters are touched by it and therefore, even the good people are still shades of grey and are much more than meets the eye, especially Morgan. She was a very interesting, twisted (through no fault of her own) with her own brand of justice and the twist with her and the cold case kept me hooked to see if she would (luckily with the help of Hudson!) survive her return to Black Harbor alive and find a happier ending than what her childhood was. I enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to continuing this series of the dark and fascinating world of Black Harbor!
