Sometime in the nineteenth century, an Inuit teenager's parents and soon-to-be wife are killed in a tragic hunting accident. Hopelessly lost and facing an uncertain future, the young man listens to his grandfather tell of a far off fantasy world, where trees grow vertically from the ground, where people ride on large, dog-like creatures, and where people are twice the size of a full-grown Inuit.Although he believes his grandfather may be lying, the teen decides to venture off with his dog, Akiak, and search of the land his grandfather spoke of. Facing terrible storms, avalanches, devastating hunger, and ferocious beasts, the two walk on the edge of life and death while charging into the unknown. Does the land exist? Was his grandfather right? The only way he can find out is to face The White.
