It's 1825. In the western North Carolina wilderness, there is unrest. Word of the plan to take the lands and the homes of the Cherokee and move them far away is starting to circulate. It is rumored to be the desire of many who covet these lands. It is said that Andrew Jackson, the nation's darling after the defeat of the British, will be instrumental in implementing this policy. His ruthlessness while leading the military in dealing with other "Indian Problems" is well established. Less well known is his greed, his moral degradation, and the degree to which his future is tied to big money interests who see opportunity in the sale of government land on the western frontier. Not everyone agrees with this plan. Western North Carolina is the home of many families formed from marriages between Scots immigrants and Cherokee maidens. A movement is being introduced among several of them to form the core of a migration that will remove many Cherokee beyond the clutches of Old Hickory before he can strike. This is the story of several of them. They will move; they will learn; they will grow; they will make their country even greater.
