SIGNS OF LIFE/FOREVER FAMILY FOUNDATION WINTER/SPRING 2010 VOLUME 7, ISSUE 1 REVIEW OF THE WESTERN BOOK OF CROSSING OVER: CONVERSATIONS WITH THE OTHER SIDE BY SHELDON STOFF, ED.D - [FROG BOOKS, 2009] REVIEWED BY BOB GINSBERG As the title implies, the subject of this work was meant to be used as resource for those curious about survival after death. However, it not only includes channeled information describing the process of dying and life in other realms, but puts the information in context for discerning the meaning of life in the physical. Dr. Sheldon Stoff was a spiritual man before and after retiring from university teaching in education and philosophy, but never imagined that he would be able to maintain a continuing relationship with his deceased wife Lorraine, to whom he was married for more than fifty years. Sheldon's current wife, Barbara Smith Stoff, whom he met under synchronistic circumstances, writes in the book's foreword, "You can imagine my excitement and feeling of good fortune when I found myself in a face-to-face dialogue with an individual who had the personal experience of an extended conversation with beings on the `other side'." She sensed the importance of the information and the purposeful way in which it was delivered. Sheldon first recognized the fact that information could be received from other realms when he purchased a poultry farm as a young man. He kept hearing advice from his deceased Uncle Sol which he described as "voices" in his head. The counseling received enabled Sheldon to break several production records. This and other occurrences where his life was actually saved by ethereal guidance awakened Sheldon to the perils of thinking with only a specific "mind-set." As communicated from Lorraine, "Each of us is simply a child of the universe, and that is necessary to proceed in meditation unadorned by past attachments." Much of the communication from Lorraine reinforced the fact that life on the Other Side is based upon the guiding principle of love--we enter a period of self-judgment when we pass that evaluates the love and compassion in our hearts and actions. The message from the authors, "here and there," is that indeed our progress in the life continuum is based in part upon the lives we lead in the physical--perhaps a comforting thought for those who wonder about "afterlife justice." Throughout the book we are reminded that what we mistakenly believe to be reality, our physical existence, is just an illusion. The true reality, the existence with permanence, is encountered after the physical. The book features descriptions provided by Lorraine, with insightful interpretation by Sheldon, on the subjects of reincarnation, our mission in life, the actual process of dying, the life review, life on the other side, soul-mates and the process of creation.
