Cheryl, a young woman, has become accustomed to the routine of dialysis three times a week. Despite the challenges it presents, she still holds onto hope and the desire to live. On the other hand, Tom, an older man, has been on dialysis for years and has grown weary of the toll it has taken on his body. He decides to stop treatment, knowing the consequences it will bring.

As the story unfolds, we witness the physical and emotional strain that dialysis puts on both Cheryl and Tom. Through the eyes of characters such as Dr. Q, Cindy, and Lynn, we gain insight into the complexities of living with a chronic illness and the difficult decisions that come with it. The tone of the book is serious, highlighting the harsh realities faced by those undergoing dialysis and the weight of time on their bodies and spirits.
