The Wayfinder's Reckoning: Confidence to Act When Others Hesitate

By Joy Chacko

The Wayfinder's Reckoning: Confidence to Act When Others Hesitate is an unforgettable middle-grade adventure that teaches one of life's most valuable skills: how to think clearly and act wisely when the answer isn't obvious.

Twelve-year-old Kael Rin boards the Meridian Star expecting an unforgettable ocean voyage. Instead, under the guidance of experienced navigators, he begins learning the timeless habits of observation, measurement, patience, and disciplined thinking. What starts as a journey across the Atlantic gradually becomes a journey toward sound judgment.

When a violent storm and a lightning strike disable the ship's navigation systems, uncertainty spreads across the bridge. Armed with little more than a brass sextant and the habits of mind he has spent days developing, Kael faces his greatest challenge yet. Rather than seeking attention or trying to become the hero, he learns that real confidence comes from telling the truth about what he knows, admitting what he doesn't, and trusting experienced leaders to make informed decisions.

Filled with authentic maritime detail, memorable characters, and meaningful life lessons, The Wayfinder's Reckoning is far more than an adventure story. It introduces young readers to critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, responsible decision-making, teamwork, humility, resilience, and ethical leadership through an engaging, page-turning narrative.

Perfect for readers ages 7-12, families, classrooms, homeschool programs, and libraries, this beautifully illustrated novel encourages children to become thoughtful problem-solvers who ask questions, evaluate evidence, and make sound decisions with confidence. Adults will also appreciate the story's timeless themes and its realistic portrayal of leadership, trust, and personal growth.

Part of the acclaimed Skillful Adventures(TM) Series, The Wayfinder's Reckoning inspires readers to discover that confidence is not about always having the right answer-it's about learning how to think when certainty is impossible.

A powerful story of courage, judgment, and character, this is a book children will enjoy today and remember long after the final page.
