The Way to Dust

This is a story of two neighborhood boys who have lived their lives on adjoining farms handed down through generations. Farms long since reduced to the point they are no longer capable of supporting families, only a shared airplane. Dreams of a retirement escape to far off places is jeopardized by their growing awareness of failing health and diminishing abilities. A childhood girlfriend returns to inspire one of the men to abandon the other for a chance at a different life.

Both men find their way through end of life revelations and their own judgements of what their existence has meant. That a day comes when the closest spirits end apart. No matter the best intentions. Ancient homes and even the land itself will follow courses unforeseen by the caretakers. And always only the slightest chance that old men could fly away from sad endings and never look back. For all that, the old men decide to fly until the end. Below the heavens and the implacable universe beyond it.
