The Way It Was is the memoir of Olga B. Kurtz, but it is more than a personal story. From the time of the Great Depression, when the author as a child and her mother came to America from Poland, through her several careers as teacher, wife, stay-at-home mom, print shop owner, and author, Olga tells of her life and time in which lived as she experienced them. The writing style is informal. It includes verses, interesting asides, a few life lessons, and opinions on practically everything. All of it is sprinkled with humor as well as a few laughs that make a fun as well as a rewarding read.
