Excellent Book

Very good book, it is about her life during the Little House on the Prairie and other movies. Excellent book for anyone to read, easy to read.

I loved this.

I loved this book -- it immerses you back in the world of Little House. I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. I actually thought Melissa did add a lot of her insights to her stories from the set. She definitely illuminated it as the creative, complex television series and set and crew that it was. If you love Little House, give it a try.

Not really a memoir, but a nice inside look at Little House

I've read a lot of these reviews and have to add my own after reading 'The Way I See It' all the way through. It's appropriately titled! It's Anderson's recollections of her work on Little House on the Prairie, the cast and crew, as well as other movies and shows she did. It's too bad so many people read this expecting something sensational and juicy. Anderson does a great job describing her life and memories. She's obviously a shy and reserved person with a real work ethic who was very serious about her career. Having read Melissa Gilbert's 'Prairie Tale' first, it's easy to distinguish the drastic difference in backgrounds and personality. Melissa Anderson was the first in her family in show business and an only child without the family drama (or trauma) that her co-star(s) experienced. I enjoyed reading this book and, if you're interested in a look at her showbiz life and those she met and worked with, I think you will, too!

Fun and thought-provoking

This book is well worth reading. The pace moves along quickly, and it's very entertaining/engaging. I think a lot of the complaints here stem from people being used to reading ghost-written celebrity memoirs. It's obvious Melissa wrote this herself, with minimal interference -- and I say, good for her! That's what makes this book such a treasure. It's honest, not slick. This woman knows how to entertain her audience and does not need a ghost writer! She weaves in her own personal observations with narratives of the shows themselves, and it was such a fun walk down memory lane reading these chapters! When I was a kid, every week, without fail, we would all sit down to watch "Little House". It was like a religious ceremony. (-: I still remember how stunned I was when she went blind on the show. It seemed so real. And, how I coveted her hair! All of us in grade school would try so hard to grow long hair like hers. It's funny now to find out that part of the time, it was a wig. This book brought back a lot of 70's-80's memories for me, and it was well worth the read just for that alone. Also, I appreciated how she made some honest criticisms in her book, and did not try to sugar-coat everything. You'll enjoy this book -- buy it. You won't be sorry.
