A hundred years in the future from "Cowboy of the Stars", a starship, the space-faring dreadnought Corpus Colossum, explodes. This reveals that a long-term problem has come to a head. Lieutenant Lucius Zuan, a combat medic with the First Spaceborne marine force, finds himself staked out in the desert, near-naked and unable to recall the events leading up to this.

The evil doers who apparently found him unconscious also staked out a young boy named Finn Macbeth, as uniquely flawed as the lieutenant. Together, they begin an adventure that will lead them to places they haven't seen before. This journey will not be free of consequence; blood will be spilt, deals will be made, and just maybe love will be found.
