The Watching Imp

By JC Mitchell

A murdered archivist. A century-old list of names. And a stone figure that listens.

Detective Superintendent Kate Hardwick thought the secrets beneath Chester's Rows had finally been exposed.

She was wrong.

When archivist Miriam Calder is murdered after investigating five mysterious names hidden inside an ancient stone figure, Kate uncovers evidence of another forgotten carving-the Watching Imp.

For generations, it appeared whenever someone discovered something they were not supposed to know.

Now someone is using it again.

Old records are disappearing. A sinister ledger has resurfaced. And a new name has been added beneath the dead.

As Kate follows the trail through Chester's archives, hidden passages and ancient buildings, one thing becomes terrifyingly clear:

The Watching Imp has noticed her too.
