Snow White's classic fairytale is re-imagined in war-torn 1860s America. Lillian Clark, growing up on her father's prosperous plantation in Virginia, has wanted for nothing all her life. Her days are spent frolicking outside with friends, and learning how to become a proper lady from her stepmother, whom she loves dearly. However, over time, Lillian becomes increasingly uncomfortable as she observes her stepmother's prejudice and disdain for their slaves, especially because her father's views are very different. When a decision about her future is forced upon her by her father and stepmother, Lillian's easygoing life is suddenly filled with strife. Then as the country erupts into Civil War, Lillian's lifelong beliefs and perceptions about herself, her family and the slaves are tested. Will her family be able to endure these trials? Or will they be torn apart by war, not only across the country, but within their own hearts?
