The eight short stories contained in this book are all quite different in many ways, and yet they often echo each other, and might even have strange continuities between them. It's the surreal horror setting that always pervades throughout each and every one, weaving a dark tale of mystery wherein its characters are forced to change before the unannounced apparitions of the strange titular entity.

Readers can therefore expect a wide variety of stories and themes, with protagonists that range from misanthropic shut-ins, to youthful delinquents, to naive yet resourceful students, and even travelers and messengers who seem to belong to a different timeline altogether, but the more inquisitive and restless readers could find plentiful connections between them all, and may therefore find answers to those selfsame mysteries, inherent to a world that was made surreal at its very core.

The book's first and foremost inspiration was The King in Yellow by Robert William Chambers. Concurrently there's also significant inspiration drawn from the various themes present in Nic Pizzolatto's True Detective. Readers are also likely to find a myriad of details which were informed by the bizarre horror present in the various works of Junji Ito, especially Uzumaki. Lastly, in some specific instances, this book has been deeply shaped by Kentarō Miura's absolute masterpiece, Berserk.
