I had just received my driver's license and was proudly sharing the accomplishment with my Bapa when he went to his office and returned with three very tattered and ratty wallets. Secretly, I was hoping he wasn't going to offer me one to house the badge of my newfound independence. My future was so shiny and new, and I was sure the wallets were past any usefulness to me. In a short time, I knew having the wallets was a great gift but it was not the real gift. The real gift was the lessons I could learn from the men before me who left them behind as simple symbols of lives well lived. Originally written as a birthday gift, The Wallet is a beautiful legacy spanning five generations. In the journey, the owners' heartfelt actions far outweigh the value of any contents the wallets have ever held.
