The Waiting Room

Four characters mysteriously end up in a "waiting room" with a phone at the center. An older woman is waiting for her sister to call. They had a falling out 12 years ago and haven't spoken since. A younger woman is waiting to figure out what to do with the rest of her life-and she wants someone to guarantee her future before she takes a step to go to college. Another man has been laid off because of explosive anger, but wants the company to call him up and ask him back to work-even though he hasn't taken any concrete steps to get at the root of his rage. Finally, a man is waiting to be sure before he takes the step into marriage-he needs to know he won't ever get divorced. That man-the newest arrival to the waiting room-asks how often the phone rings, so he can get an idea of when he'll get his answer.
