Augustin Ujevic (July 5, 1891 - November 12, 1955). He is one of the best known Croatian (and ex-Yugoslav) poets, born in Vrgorac, Dalmatia, Croatia. Besides poetry, Mr. Ujevic wrote essays, short stories, and he also translated from major European languages. The best known books of his poetry are Lelek sebra (The Wail of a Slave), Belgrade 1920, and Kolajna (Necklace), Beolgrade 1926. This is the first English translation of his major work, Lelek sebra - The Wail of a Slave.
